Jerome Levy Institute

A nonprofit, nonpartisan, public policy research organization at Bard College. Associations

These are associations of more or less like-minded economists. They often explain their perspectives succinctly and provide interesting links. The largest is the mainstream, American Economics Association, which also maintains the Job Openings for Economists page.

Directories

This section includes links to full-text articles and working paper series, data, and research. The goal of WebEc, for example, is to improve communication among all scholars of the economy. Many research institutes and advocacy groups maintain extensive, categorized links, as well.

Research Institutes

Research institutes always advocate something. Each has a particular economic or social, political, or philosophical perspective. Many explicitly advocate for this perspective.

News and Views

Sources of economic and financial news, informed opinion, and advocacy. Useful research as well as argumentation can often be found in both news and advocacy sites.

Penalties for Plagiarism

Fortunately, the key to avoiding plagiarism is contained within the phrase "citing the source and giving them credit." Proper citation gives credit where credit is due, and provides readers of your work with a valuable research tool. 

The penalty for plagiarism is at the discretion of the course instructor, and depends on the severity of the offence. Penalties for plagiarism in the Economics & Finance Department at Buffalo State may include:

  • de novo rewriting and resubmission

  • a failing grade on the plagiarized assignment

  • a grade reduction for the course

  • a failing grade for the course

  It may be appealed through the department and college academic appeals process.
